Purple to Black Gradient Nails

Today I have my first attempt at gradient nails for you. This weekend I had another Sixth Guns weekend with three friends, this time in Gorinchem (see my post about the first one here). Since I did something special last time, I felt I also had to do something for this weekend. I initially had planned something different than the gradient nails I did, but that first idea was a complete fail XD
Luckily the gradient nails came out great and the weekend was super fun <3

Vandaag heb ik mijn eerste poging om gradient nagels te maken voor jullie. Dit weekend had ik een tweede Sixth Guns weekend met drie vriendinnen, dit keer in Gorinchem (klik hier voor mijn post over de eerste). Omdat ik de vorige keer ook iets speciaals met mijn nagels heb gedaan, vond ik dat ik dat ook moest voor dit weekend. Eigenlijk had ik iets heel anders in gedachten om te doen, maar dat was een hele grote faal XD
Maar gelukkig waren de gradient nagels wel gelukt en was het een awesome weekend <3

I started out with a base of two coats of Catrice Inner Purple of Trust, a pretty berry-colored purple. When that had sufficiently dried I used a makeup sponge to create a gradient on my nails. A tutorial from the Nailasaurus for this technique can be found here. The black I used in this gradient is Catrice Black For Gold. Lastly I applied a layer of clear top coat for a nice shine. I love how it turned out, especially because it was my first time doing this. Every time I caught sight of my nails I just had to stare at them <3 In real life they even look nicer ^_^

Ik begon met een basis van twee laagjes Catrice Inner Purple of Trust, een mooie bessenkleurige paars. Toen dat goed droog was heb ik met een makeup sponsje een gradient op mijn nagels gemaakt. Een tutorial hiervoor, gemaakt door de Nailasaurus, is hier te vinden (alleen in het Engels). De zwarte lak die ik hiervoor heb gebruikt is Catrice Black For Gold. Als laatste bracht ik nog een laagje top coat aan voor een mooie glans. Ik ben heel erg tevreden met mijn gradient nails, vooral omdat dit de eerste keer is dat ik dit deed. Elke keer als ik mijn nagels zag moest ik gewoon naar ze staren <3 In het echt zien ze er zelfs nog veel mooier uit ^_^

Green Dotticure

Today I have my first attempt at a dotticure for you. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, it's basically a manicure made with dots, for which I used a set of dotting tools. I got mine off of Ebay, since they can be bought for much cheaper there than in other (online)shops.

Vandaag heb ik mijn eerste poging om een dotticure te maken voor jullie. Voor diegene die niet bekend zijn met de term, het is een manicure gemaakt met stipjes (dots), waarvoor ik een setje dotting tools heb gebruikt. Ik heb die van mij op Ebay gekocht, omdat ze daar een stuk goedkoper zijn dan in andere (online)winkels. 

I started out with two coats of Essence Check Me Out as a base for my dotticure. When that was dry to the touch I put a blob of Catrice Hugo Moss onto a plastic folder and took a dotting tool from my nail art supplies box. Then I started placing a row of medium sized dots along the edge of my nails. Then I took the other end of the dotting tool, which has a smaller dot on it, and placed random (sort of) dots underneath the first line I made. For a first time I kinda like it, though I wished I had a clearer dot pattern in mind so that there would be some consistency in this dotticure. I like my ring finger nail best, which is a good thing because I use that one for macro photos XD

Ik begon met twee laagjes Essence Check Me Out als basis voor mijn dotticure. Toen die droog genoeg was om aan te raken heb ik een druppel Catrice Hugo Moss op een plastic hoesje gedaan en pakte een dotting tool uit mijn doos met nail art tools. Met die dotting tool plaatste ik middelgrote stipjes over het hele randje van mijn nagels. Daarna pakte ik de andere kant van de dotting tool, die een kleiner stipje maakt, en plaatste willekeurige (soort van) stipjes onder de eerste rij die ik gemaakt had. Voor een eerste keer vind ik het best wel leuk, maar ik had beter na moeten denken over wat voor patroon ik zou maken zodat er wat meer eenheid in deze dotticure zit. Mijn ringvinger vind ik het mooiste, wat misschien ook maar goed is aangezien ik die gebruik voor macro foto's XD

The reason why I'm posting a green dotticure today is that after Robin Williams passed away from a long-lasting depression, the nail community decided that today (August 17) would be the day to raise awareness for this ugly, silent illness. I'm hesitant to diagnose myself with depression, since a lot of people who suffer from it have it far worse than I have, but I certainly have my bad days where I don't like anything I previously enjoyed, and feel like a worthless piece of sh*t. These moods come out of nowhere, although a certain person makes it worse sometimes (the people who know me well might take an educated guess).

Nail polish has usually cheered me up, as well as watching the movie The Avengers (among others, though this one works best). Whenever I'm sad and down, I put the DVD in the DVD player, hit play and when the movie ends I feel loads better. That's why I made this dragon egg with the polish named after my favorite character from Thor and The Avengers; Loki. So that whenever I feel down I can look at it, marvel in the polish-ness of it and also be reminded of an awesome character and movie.

De rede waarom ik vandaag een groene dotticure post is dat nadat Robin Williams overleden is na een langdurende depressie, de nagel community besloten heeft om vandaag (17 augustus) massaal aandacht te vragen voor deze lelijke, stille ziekte. Ik aarzel om van mezelf te zeggen dat ik ook last heb van een depressie, omdat andere die hieraan lijden het zoveel zwaarder hebben dan ik, maar ik heb zeker mijn dagen waar ik geen zin heb ik de dingen die ik eerst heel leuk vond en mijzelf een waardeloos stuk vuil voel. Deze moods komen uit het niets, ook al is er een bepaald persoon die het wel erger maakt (diegene die mij goed kennen kunnen waarschijnlijk wel een goede gok wagen).

Nagellak maakt mij meestal wel weer wat vrolijker, en ook het kijken van The Avengers helpt (andere films werken ook, maar deze het beste). Als ik me weer eens k*t voel dan dan doe ik de DVD in de DVD speler, druk op play en als de film is afgelopen dan voel ik me meestal een stuk beter. Daarom heb ik ook dit drakenei gemaakt met een nagellak die is vernoemd naar mijn favoriete karakter uit Thor en The Avengers; Loki. Zodat als ik me down voel ik ernaar kan kijken, kan genieten van de mooie nagellak en ook herinnert worden aan een awesome karakter en film.

Catrice My Big Green Wedding

Hi everyone, / Hoi iedereen,

Today I have a polish from the new Catrice fall/winter collection to show you. I went to Kruidvat (a Dutch drugstore) this Monday with my mom and to my big surprise they already had the new collection :D So then came the big choosing game, since I only got to buy two. In the end I went to for the one I'm showing you today and for a gorgeous lilac glitter from the same series.

Vandaag heb ik een lak van de nieuwe Catrice herfst/wintercollectie om aan jullie te laten zien. Afgelopen maandag ging ik naar het Kruidvat met mijn moeder en tot mijn grote verbazing hadden ze al de nieuwe collectie liggen :D Toen begon het wat-zal-ik-kiezen spel, aangezien ik er twee mocht kopen. Uiteindelijk koos ik voor degene die ik jullie vandaag laat zien en voor een hele mooie lila glitter uit dezelfde serie.

This is Catrice My Big Green Wedding, from the new Luxury Lacquers series. As you might have noticed they come in a fancy square bottle, unlike the rest of the new Catrice polishes. Not completely sure why these are the only ones in square bottles, but it probably has something to do with the 'luxury' part of it. Not that you hear me complaining, seeing as they hold 11 ml instead of 10 ;) The brush is also different compared to a normal Catrice polish. Whereas the normal ones are wide and short, these are longer and a lot thinner, which I think is a good thing considering the amount of glitter in this polish.
My Big Green Wedding is filled with different shapes of reflective big green glitter and fine gold glitter. I used two coats to get it opaque, and I'll admit it's not my neatest paint job ever. I found it quite difficult to work with because of the glitter but the end result is all worth it in my opinion. Look at that reflective glittery-ness <3 Next time I'm going to try layering it over a similarly colored base for some more neatness.

Dit is Catrice My Big Green Wedding, van de nieuwe Luxury Lacquers serie. Zoals je misschien al gezien hebt zit deze nagellak in een fancy vierkant flesje ipv een ronde zoals de rest van de nieuwe Catrice nagellak. Ik weet niet precies waarom deze de enige zijn in vierkante flesjes, maar dit zal wel iets te maken hebben met het 'luxury' gedeelte ervan. Niet dat je mij hoort klagen, aangezien er 11 ml inzit ipv 10 ;) Het kwastje is ook anders vergeleken met een normale Catrice lak. De normale zijn breed en kort, maar deze zijn langer en dunner, wat ik op zich niet zo erg vond gezien de hoeveelheid glitter in deze lak.
My Big Green Wedding bestaat uit verschillende weerspiegelende grote groene glitters en fijne gouden glitter. Ik heb twee laagjes aangebracht om hem dekkend te krijgen en ik geef toe dat het niet mijn netste werk ooit is. Ik vond de lak vrij lastig aanbrengen door de grote hoeveelheid glitter, maar het eindresultaat mag er wezen in mijn ogen. Kijk nou eens naar al die weerspiegelende glitterigheid <3 De volgende keer ga ik proberen deze over een basis van dezelfde kleur aan te brengen zodat het er iets netter uit komt te zien.

L'Oréal Sequin Explosion

Normally I don't buy L'Oréal polishes 'cause I think they are too expensive (same with OPI and Max Factor I guess), but every once in a while they have a polish that you just have to have. Sequin Explosion is one of those polishes. Luckily they had a BOGO on all L'Oréal products so I got two Sequin Explosion polishes for €5,99. Yes, I bought two, because it is awesome enough to warrant that <3

Normaal koop ik geen L'Oréal nagellak omdat ik die veel te duur vind (hetzelfde met OPI en Max Factor), maar eens in de zoveel tijd hebben ze een nagellak in de collectie die je gewoon moet hebben. Sequin Explosion is zo'n nagellak. Gelukkig was er bij het Kruidvat 1+1 gratis op alle L'Oréal producten dus heb ik er twee kunnen kopen voor €5,99. Ja, ik heb er twee gekocht, omdat deze lak er awesome genoeg voor is <3

First I applied two layers of Catrice Inner Purple Of Trust as a base. Then I added one (!) layer of L'Oréal Sequin Explosion (very fitting name), a true glitter bomb. All this glitter with just one layer, can you imagine? I had to try so hard not to cover my entire nail in glitter, that's how dense the glitter is in this polish. Definitely no fishing or dabbing needed! I also love how reflective the glitter is, it's almost like I stuck tiny mirrors on my nails instead <3

Eerst bracht ik twee laagjes van Catrice Inner Purple Of Trust aan als basis. Daarna lakte ik één (!) laagje L'Oréal Sequin Explosion (hele toepasselijke naam) erover heen. Zoveel glitter met maar één laagje, kun je het je voorstellen? Ik moest echt heel erg mijn best doen om niet mijn hele nagel ermee te bedekken, zoveel glitter zit er in deze lak. Je hoeft zeker niet naar glitter te vissen of het erop te deppen. Ook vind ik het geweldig hoe reflecterend de glitter is, het lijkt bijna alsof ik kleine spiegeltjes op mijn nagels heb geplakt in plaats van glitter <3

Splatter Nails

I've been meaning to post today's nail art on my birthday (last monday), but I didn't in favor for my Fantasy Fire nails. So now I'll be posting the splatter nails I made last weekend :)
(My apologies for the yellow-ish photos, but it was the only way for my camera to show the purple as purple instead of blue. I have no idea how to work Photoshop XD)

Ik wilde eigenlijk de nail art van vandaag op mijn verjaardag posten (afgelopen maandag), maar toen heb ik mijn Fantasy Fire nagels gepost. Maar vandaag heb ik dan eindelijk de splatter nagels van afgelopen weekend voor jullie :)
(Mijn excuses voor de gelige foto's, maar dit was de enige manier voor mijn camera om het paars ook daadwerkelijk paars te maken in plaats van blauw. Ik heb geen idee hoe Photoshop werkt XD)

First I applied two layers of a light blue Paris Memories polish. When that was dry I started blowing on polish with a straw. The polishes that I used are Catrice Heavy Metallilac (purple), a metallic Red Claire's polish and Essence A Walk In The Park (green). I finished with one layer of top coat. Out of all the three polishes I used I found that A Walk In The Park was the easiest to blow on with a straw. This was super messy, so cleanup was a bit of a pain. But I had a lot of fun doing this. For a first time I think it looks rather nice (my right hand was a disaster though).
Have you ever tried a splatter mani before? I would love to see them if you did ^_^

Als eerste begon ik met twee laagjes van een licht blauwe Paris Memories lak. Toen die goed droog was blies ik met een rietje de andere lakken erop. De lakken die ik gebruikt heb zijn Catrice Heavy Metallilac (paars), een metallic rode Claire's lak, en Essence A Walk In The Park (groen). Van alle lakken die ik gebruikt heb vond ik A Walk In The Park het makkelijkst erop te blazen met een rietje. Het was echt heel messy om te doen, maar wel super leuk. De clean up was alleen wat minder. Voor een eerste keer vind ik deze nog best goed gelukt (je moet alleen niet naar mijn rechterhand kijken, die was best mislukt).
Hebben jullie al ooit eens een splatter mani gedaan? Die zou ik dan graag eens willen zien ^_^

Catrice Luxury Lacquers Glitterama

Today I have a swatch for you from one of the new Catrice Luxury Lacquers LE polishes. It's not really new I guess, seeing as it has been out in the shops for a while now (Belgium will get them in May though).
After I got a tip from a friend on where I could buy them (with a discount even!) I managed to get my hands on two of the polishes.
Because I was a little late to the party they were mostly sold out, so no Chameleon polishes for me :( One of the polishes that I was able to buy is Glitterama, which I will be showing you today, the other is Maliblue, a blue sand polish (think a little brighter version of Zoya Sunshine).

Vandaag heb ik een swatch voor jullie van één van de nieuwe Catrice Luxury Lacquers LE lakken. Helemaal nieuw zijn ze niet, aangezien ze al een tijdje in de winkels liggen (maar in België liggen ze in mei pas in de winkel). 
Na een tip van een vriendin te hebben gekregen over waar ik ze kon kopen (met korting zelfs!) heb ik eindelijk twee lakjes kunnen bemachtigen.
Omdat ik er dus redelijk laat bij was waren er al een heleboel weg, dus geen Chameleon lakjes voor mij :( Één van de lakjes die ik wel heb kunnen kopen is Glitterama, die ik vandaag laat zien, de andere is Maliblue, een blauwe sand lak (denk een fellere versie van Zoya Sunshine).

Catrice Glitterama is a sea green shimmery polish with green glitter mixed into it. Because of the shimmery base it's rather sheer, but with two thicker coats you can get is reasonably opaque, as seen in the photos above. The application was a breeze and the glitters placed themselves nicely. This polish is definitely unique in my stash :)

Catrice Glitterama is een zeegroene shimmer lak met groene glitters erin. Omdat de basis shimmery is, is deze lak niet super dekkend, maar met twee wat dikkere laagjes krijg je hem redelijk dekkend zoals in de foto's hierboven. Het aanbrengen was een eitje en de glitters kwamen er goed uit. Deze lak is zeker uniek in mijn stash.

Talking about my stash, I recently decided to swatch all of my polishes on swatch stick so that it's easier for me to see which polishes I have. I bought 300 of them on Ebay (yay for Ebay) for cheap and they arrived about five days ago. The past couple of days I've been swatching and I apparently have 248 polishes :D I posted on Twitter that I had 298 polishes, as I thought I misplaced a pack of 50 polished sticks. In reality I misplaced a pack of 50 unpolished sticks... Oops XD
The photo below is the swatching in progress (my desk is too cluttered so I sat on the ground).

Over mijn stash gesproken, I heb recentelijk besloten om al mijn lakken te swatchen op zogenaamde swatch sticks zodat het makkelijker is om te zien wat ik heb. Zo'n twee weken terug heb ik heel goedkoop 300 stokjes gekocht op Ebay (yay voor Ebay) en die zijn ongeveer vijf dagen geleden aangekomen. De afgelopen dagen ben ik dus aan het swatchen geslagen en schijnbaar heb ik dus 248 lakjes :D Op Twitter zei ik dat ik er 298 had omdat ik was in de veronderstelling dat ik een pakje van 50 gelakte stokjes misplaatst had. Maar het bleek dat ik een pakje van 50 ongelakte stokjes misplaatst had... Oeps XD

Gold Cross Nail Art

Today I have a bit of nail art for you. Last weekend I traveled to a city called Maastricht in the far south of the Netherlands for a Sixth Guns meeting at a friends house. I should probably explain what a Sixth Gun is; a person who is a fan of the Japanese Visual Kei band called the GazettE. I've been a Sixth Gun for about 3 years now, and last year I went to their concert in Dortmund, Germany.
Since the Visual Kei genre has a big visual aspect (hence the name) I wanted to do an appropriate nail art for the occasion. I searched Pinterest for ideas and eventually went for a design I had already pinned a while ago (see pin here). Since the pin came from a photo site and there was no watermark to be found I have no idea who the owner of the original is. If you happen to know who it is please tell me so that I can give credit :D

Vandaag heb ik wat nail art voor jullie. Afgelopen weekend ben ik zuidwaarts gereist naar Maastricht voor een Sixth Guns meeting bij een vriendin thuis. Misschien ook wel handig om uit te leggen wat een Sixth Gun is; een persoon die fan is van de Japanse Visual Kei band the GazettE. First I painted my nails with two layers of Essence A Piece of Forever (the gold). Then I let that dry really well before applying striping tape in a cross-shape. After making sure the tape was on neatly I painted over it with one layer of Essence Black is Back, the most pigmented black that I own. Then I carefully removed the tape with a pair of tweezers, making sure I pulled off the tape in the correct order. When the black was dry I dabbed on a dot of top coat with a dotting tool and placed a red rhinestone as seen in the photos. After that I finished with a layer of Catrice High Shine & Quick Dry Top Coat.

Eerst heb ik mijn nagels gelakt met twee laagjes Essence A Piece of Forever (goud). Dat liet ik goed drogen voordat ik met striping tape een kruis vorm maakte. Nadat ik had gechecked of de tape er goed op zat heb ik één laagje Essence Black is Back aangebracht, de meest gepigmenteerde zwarte nagellak die ik heb. Daarna haalde ik heel voorzichtig de tape in de juiste volgorde eraf met een pincet. Toen de zwarte lak droog was bracht ik wat top coat aan met een dotting tool en plaatste een rood steentje zoals te zien is op de foto. Daarna bracht ik nog een laag Catrice High Shine & Quick Dry Top Coat aan.

Catrice Hugo Moss + NYC Green Day

Hi everyone, / Hoi iedereen,

Unfortunately this is my last post with long nails. Today while cleaning I broke one of the nails on my swatch hand, and since I hate uneven nails all the nails had to go short. I'm pretty bummed that they broke 'cause I was so proud of my long nails. But on the plus side, I can finally make a nice (funky) French on my nails without having to use a solid base. My nail beds are quite small, so I have a lot of "free nail" (the white part), too much for a nice looking French in my opinion.

Helaas is dit de laatste post met lange nagels. Tijdens het schoonmaken vandaag brak er een stuk af van één van de nagels van mijn swatch hand. Omdat ik me altijd erger aan ongelijke nagels moest de rest ook kort. Ik baal er wel van dat er één brak want ik was juist zo trots op mijn lange nagels. Maar aan de positieve kant kan ik nu wel een mooie (funky) French manicure doen zonder dat ik een solide basiskleur hoef te gebruiken. Mijn nagelbed is helaas heel klein, dus ik heb best veel "vrije nagel" (het witte stuk), te veel voor een mooi uitziende French vind ik zelf.

Anyways, on to the photos of today's manicure before the nasty break. I am wearing two coats of Catrice Hugo Moss, a deep green jelly polish, and no top coat. On my ring finger I used one coat of NYC Green Day, a mix of big and small glitters in different shapes in a green base. It might be possible to get it opaque on its own but I haven't tried it yet.

Anyways, op naar de foto's van de manicure van vandaag voor de vervelende breuk. Ik heb twee laagjes Catrice Hugo Moss, een diep groene jelly lak, zonder top coat. Op mijn ringvinger heb ik één laagje NYC Green Day aangebracht, een mix van grote en kleine glitters met verschillende vormen in een groene basis. Het is misschien mogelijk om deze lak op zichzelf helemaal dekkend te krijgen maar dat heb ik nog niet geprobeert.
