Catrice My Big Green Wedding

Today I have a polish from the new Catrice fall/winter collection to show you. I went to Kruidvat (a Dutch drugstore) this Monday with my mom and to my big surprise they already had the new collection :D So then came the big choosing game, since I only got to buy two. In the end I went to for the one I'm showing you today and for a gorgeous lilac glitter from the same series.

Vandaag heb ik een lak van de nieuwe Catrice herfst/wintercollectie om aan jullie te laten zien. Afgelopen maandag ging ik naar het Kruidvat met mijn moeder en tot mijn grote verbazing hadden ze al de nieuwe collectie liggen :D Toen begon het wat-zal-ik-kiezen spel, aangezien ik er twee mocht kopen. Uiteindelijk koos ik voor degene die ik jullie vandaag laat zien en voor een hele mooie lila glitter uit dezelfde serie.

This is Catrice My Big Green Wedding, from the new Luxury Lacquers series. As you might have noticed they come in a fancy square bottle, unlike the rest of the new Catrice polishes. Not completely sure why these are the only ones in square bottles, but it probably has something to do with the 'luxury' part of it. Not that you hear me complaining, seeing as they hold 11 ml instead of 10 ;) The brush is also different compared to a normal Catrice polish. Whereas the normal ones are wide and short, these are longer and a lot thinner, which I think is a good thing considering the amount of glitter in this polish.
My Big Green Wedding is filled with different shapes of reflective big green glitter and fine gold glitter. I used two coats to get it opaque, and I'll admit it's not my neatest paint job ever. I found it quite difficult to work with because of the glitter but the end result is all worth it in my opinion. Look at that reflective glittery-ness <3 Next time I'm going to try layering it over a similarly colored base for some more neatness.

Dit is Catrice My Big Green Wedding, van de nieuwe Luxury Lacquers serie. Zoals je misschien al gezien hebt zit deze nagellak in een fancy vierkant flesje ipv een ronde zoals de rest van de nieuwe Catrice nagellak. Ik weet niet precies waarom deze de enige zijn in vierkante flesjes, maar dit zal wel iets te maken hebben met het 'luxury' gedeelte ervan. Niet dat je mij hoort klagen, aangezien er 11 ml inzit ipv 10 ;) Het kwastje is ook anders vergeleken met een normale Catrice lak. De normale zijn breed en kort, maar deze zijn langer en dunner, wat ik op zich niet zo erg vond gezien de hoeveelheid glitter in deze lak.
My Big Green Wedding bestaat uit verschillende weerspiegelende grote groene glitters en fijne gouden glitter. Ik heb twee laagjes aangebracht om hem dekkend te krijgen en ik geef toe dat het niet mijn netste werk ooit is. Ik vond de lak vrij lastig aanbrengen door de grote hoeveelheid glitter, maar het eindresultaat mag er wezen in mijn ogen. Kijk nou eens naar al die weerspiegelende glitterigheid <3 De volgende keer ga ik proberen deze over een basis van dezelfde kleur aan te brengen zodat het er iets netter uit komt te zien.

Striping Tape Mani Tutorial

It's finally here, my first tutorial! As mentioned before this is not my original tutorial, but merely a repeat of an existing one that I'm making for friends so that they have easy access to it :) I hope it's easy to follow and that you enjoy reading it~

Hier is 'ie dan eindelijk, mijn eerste tutorial! Zoals ik al eerder zei is dit niet mijn tutorial, maar een herhaling van een al bestaande tutorial die ik maak voor vrienden zodat ze hem makkelijk kunnen vinden :) Ik hoop dat hij een beetje goed te volgen is en dat jullie het leuk vinden om te lezen~

Tape Mani Tutorial

Materials needed / Benodigde materialen:

Two different colored polishes and a top coat. The colors pictured here are l.t.r. NYC Platinum Card and Nicole by OPI Khloé Had A Little Lam Lam, and the Essence Gel-look top coat.

Twee verschillende kleuren nagellak en een top coat. De kleuren op de foto hierboven zijn van l.n.r. NYC Platinum Card en Nicole by OPI Khloé Had A Little Lam Lam, en de Essence Gel-look top coat.

Striping tape. I bought mine on Ebay for really cheap (44 rolls for $4.50 or something). Here you can find a buy it now listing on Ebay for roughly $0.92 with free shipping to the Netherlands :) You can find many more like this one by typing in "striping tape" in the search bar. For convenient storage I decided to put mine in a scotch tape holder.

Striping tape. Ik heb die van mij heel goedkoop op Ebay gekocht (44 rolletjes voor $4,50 of zo). Hier kan je een buy it now listing vinden voor ongeveer $0,92 met gratis verzending naar Nederland :) Je kunt nog veel meer zoals deze vinden als je "striping tape" intypt bij de zoekbalk. Om ze makkelijk te bewaren heb ik de rolletjes tape in een plakbandhouder gedaan.

Nail scissors (or normal scissors) and tweezers.

Nagelschaartje (of gewone schaar) en een pincet.

Optional: acetone/nail polish remover and a small make up brush for cleaning up the cuticles.

Optioneel: aceton/nagellak remover en een klein make up kwastje om je nagelriemen schoon te maken.

Step 1 / Stap 1:

Start with one or two coats of you base color, which is a silver polish in my case. Make sure to let this dry for at least an hour before applying the striping tape. If the base isn't completely dry the tape will pull off the base layer of polish, effectively ruining you mani.

Begin met één of twee laagjes van je basiskleur, in mijn geval is dat een zilverkleurige nagellak. Laat dit zeker een uur drogen voordat je de tape er overheen plakt. Als de basis niet helemaal droog is dan zal de tape deze meenemen zodra je de tape eraf haalt, waardoor je mani verpest wordt.

Step 2 / Stap 2:

Apply you striping tape in the desired pattern. Make sure you remember the order in which you put them on your nails; when pulling the tape off again you'll want to do this in the opposite order for the cleanest lines :) Another tip for crisp line is to make sure to press the tape firmly on your nails and into you cuticles. This way you can minimize the bleeding of the polish underneath the tape.

Breng je striping tape aan op de nagel in het gewenste patroon. Onthoud hierbij goed in welke volgorde je de tape aanbrengt; als je de tape er weer afhaalt dan doe je dit in de omgedraaide volgorde zodat je het netste lijntje krijgt :) Zorg er ook voor dat je de tape goed aanduwt, ook bij je nagelriemen. Hierdoor kun je voorkomen dat de nagellak onder de tape komt tijdens het aanbrengen.

Step 3 / Stap 3:

Paint your second color over the striping tape, making sure to cover the entire nail. I chose this color because it covers in one coat. Of course it's not necessary but makes everything a lot easier.

Breng je tweede kleur nagellak aan over de striping tape, zorg er daarbij voor dat je de hele nagel bedekt. Ik heb voor deze kleur gekozen omdat die dekt in één laagje. Dit is natuurlijk niet noodzakelijk maar maakt alles wel een stuk makkelijker.

Step 4 / Stap 4:

As mentioned in step 2, pull of the striping tape one by one in the opposite order of which you applied it, using a pair of tweezers. I prefer to pull of the tape while the polish is still wet, because the lines will look better, and there is less chance of pulling loose the dried polish of the second color.

Zoals vermeld in stap 2, trek de striping tape er één voor één af met een pincet, in de omgedraaide volgorde van hoe je ze hebt aangebracht. Ik vind het fijn om dit te doen wanneer de tweede laag kleur nog nat is, want de lijntjes zien er dan een stuk beter uit. En je hebt minder kans dat je de droge nagellak van de tweede kleur meetrekt.

Final step / Laatste stap:

Lastly, apply a generous coat of top coat to smooth out your design. I also use a make up brush and acetone to clean up the polish on my cuticles and to create a nice round "smile line" near the cuticle. This is completely optional though :)
And there you have it, your very own striping tape mani! If you want more inspiration for patters go check out Pinterest or Google Images :)

Als laatste breng je een laag top coat aan om alles mooi glad te maken. Ik gebruik daarna ook een make up kwastje met wat aceton om de nagellak van mijn nagellriemen te halen en een mooie "smile line" bij mijn nagelriemen te creëren. Maar dit is helemaal optioneel :)

DA #014

Today I have a swatch for you from a Dutch drugstore brand called DA. I only recently got a few nail polishes from this brand because for a long time I didn't have a DA close to where I live. I did get one as a present once, and I thought that the quality of the polish was really good.

Vandaag heb ik een swatch voor jullie van een nagellak van het DA merk. Ik heb pas sinds kort een aantal lakjes van de DA omdat ik eerst nooit een DA in de buurt had. Ik heb er wel eens één als cadeautje gehad, en de kwaliteit van de lak vond ik toen heel goed.

This is DA #014, a gorgeous burgundy metallic shimmer polish. It's not really visible in my photos but in person you can really see the depth of the shimmer, especially in the sun. I applied two coats without top coat, because it's really shiny on its own. I am in love with this polish, and can't stop staring at my nails <3

Dit is DA #014, een prachtige bordeauxrode metallic shimmer nagellak. Je ziet het niet echt op de foto's maar in het echt kan je de diepte van de shimmer heel goed zien, vooral in het zonlicht. Ik heb twee laagjes aangebracht zonder top coat, want hij glanst al heel mooi van zichzelf. Ik ben verliefd geworden op deze nagellak, ik blijf maar naar mijn nagels staren <3

A while ago some of my friends were wondering if I could perhaps make some tutorials for nail art. So after thinking about it I decided to go ahead and started making my first tutorial. Just for the record: none of these are my original design unless I state so in the post. They might also not be as good as other people's tutorials, but I hope you find them easy to follow :)

I hope to post my first tutorial soon~ (in the end I wasn't satisfied enough to post what I had so I'm redoing it XD)

Een tijdje geleden vroegen een aantal vriendinnen of ik niet eens wat tutorials voor nail art op mijn blog wilde zetten. Na er overnagedacht te hebben vond ik het wel een leuk idee en ben ik begonnen met de eerste tutorial. Belangrijk: geen van deze tutorials zijn bedacht door mij tenzij het in de post staat. Ze zijn misschien ook niet zo goed als de tutorials van andere mensen, maar ik hoop dat ze toch goed te volgen zijn :)
Alle tutorials die ik op mijn blog post zijn op één plek te vinden door op de "Tutorials" tab te klikken onder de titel van mijn blog. Hij laat dan namelijk alleen de posts zien met het tutorial label ^_^

Studded Funky French

Today I have a funky french manicure for you. I was browsing on Pinterest when I came across quite a few funky french manis, and that inspired me to make the mani I'm showing you in this blog post.

Vandaag heb ik een funky french manicure voor jullie. Ik was op Pinterest aan het rondkijken en daar kwam ik best een aantal funky french mani's tegen, die mij geïnspireerd hebben om de mani te maken in deze post.

I started with two coats of a bright red Etos (a Dutch drugstore) polish that has no name (and the number I wasn't sure of). When I applied the second coat of polish I pressed small silver studs in the still wet polish and let everything dry. Then I painted the studs black and applied some striping tape to make the black lines on the tips. I used China Glaze Liquid Leather for the black polish, but you can use any black polish you want for this.

Ik begon met twee laagjes van een felrode Etos lak zonder naam (en het nummer vond ik niet helemaal duidelijk). Na de tweede laag aangebracht te hebben duwde ik op elke nagel een zilveren stud in de nog natte nagellak, waarna ik alles goed liet drogen. Daarna lakte ik de studs zwart en gebruikte in wat striping tape om de zwarte lijntjes aan te kunnen brengen. Ik heb als zwarte lak China Glaze Liquid Leather gebruikt, maar je kunt natuurlijk ook andere zwarte nagellak gebruiken.

Maybelline Urban Vibe

Just a quick swatch for today's post. I have one of the Maybelline Color Show Street Artist polishes for you, which was a birthday present from a friend. I swatched it a while ago but never got around to posting it. Seeing as my nails are still short (I had to shorten them again after a nasty corner break on my swatching hand :S) I figured I might as well post it now~

Een snelle swatch voor de post van vandaag. I heb één van de Maybelline Color Show Street Artist lakken voor jullie, die ik van een vriendin voor mijn verjaardag had gekregen. Ik heb deze al een hele tijd geleden geswatched, maar heb hem nooit op mijn blog laten zien. Omdat mijn nagels nog steeds kort zijn (ik heb ze weer korter moeten maken nadat er een hoekje was afgebroken van mijn linker hand :S) vond ik dat ik deze nu wel kon posten~

This is Maybelline Urban Vibe, a mix of orange and black matte glitter. Shown here is one coat of Urban Vibe over two coats of Rimmel Hot White Love. Just like the others in this collection the application was a breeze.

Dit is Maybelline Urban Vibe, een mix van oranje en zwarte matte glitter. Op de foto's zie je één laagje Urban Vibe over twee laagjes Rimmel Hot White Love. Net zoals de andere lakjes in deze collectie bracht deze heel makkelijk aan.

Yes Love G5-1

Hi everyone, / Hoi iedereen,

Sorry for the long wait after last post. Things in real life have been getting in the way, and after my nails were reduced to nubs about 2 weeks ago I kinda didn't feel like posting. The swatch I'm showing you today is an older one, hence the still long nails :) My nails are still short at the moment, so I'll be posting some older photos while I wait for them to grow back to a respectable length (IMO).

Sorry voor de lange stilte na de laatste post. Dingen in het echte leven zaten in de weg, en nadat mijn nagels twee weken geleden gekortwiekt waren had ik niet zo heel veel zin om te bloggen. De swatch die ik jullie vandaag laat zien is dan ook een oude, vandaar mijn lange nagels :) Mijn nagels zijn nu nog steeds kort, dus tot dat ze weer een beetje redelijk van lengte zijn (naar mijn mening) post ik oudere foto's.

This shiny silver polish is Yes Love G5-1 and is part of the Mirror collection. Application wasn't too difficult, and it needs two coats to be opaque. G5-1 applies very streaky, as is normal for such a polish I guess. Nevertheless it's a very pretty polish, and a nice base for nail art me thinks. I bought this polish on the Dutch webshop of Yes Love, found here, in case someone is interested :)

Deze glimmende zilvere lak is Yes Love G5-1 en maakt deel uit van de Mirror collectie. Het aanbrengen ging makkelijk, en met twee laagjes is 'ie dekkend. G5-1 lakt wel heel streperig, maar dat is niet ongewoon voor zo'n lak. Desondanks is het een hele mooie lak, en erg geschikt als basis voor nail art denk ik zo. Ik heb deze lak gekocht op de Nederlandse website van Yes Love, die je hier vindt, voor het geval iemand interesse heeft :)
