Gold Cross Nail Art

Today I have a bit of nail art for you. Last weekend I traveled to a city called Maastricht in the far south of the Netherlands for a Sixth Guns meeting at a friends house. I should probably explain what a Sixth Gun is; a person who is a fan of the Japanese Visual Kei band called the GazettE. I've been a Sixth Gun for about 3 years now, and last year I went to their concert in Dortmund, Germany.
Since the Visual Kei genre has a big visual aspect (hence the name) I wanted to do an appropriate nail art for the occasion. I searched Pinterest for ideas and eventually went for a design I had already pinned a while ago (see pin here). Since the pin came from a photo site and there was no watermark to be found I have no idea who the owner of the original is. If you happen to know who it is please tell me so that I can give credit :D

Vandaag heb ik wat nail art voor jullie. Afgelopen weekend ben ik zuidwaarts gereist naar Maastricht voor een Sixth Guns meeting bij een vriendin thuis. Misschien ook wel handig om uit te leggen wat een Sixth Gun is; een persoon die fan is van de Japanse Visual Kei band the GazettE. Ik ben nu ongeveer 3 een Sixth Gun en afgelopen jaar ben ik naar hun concert geweest in Dortmund, Duitsland.
Omdat Visual Kei een groot visueel aspect heeft (vandaar de naam ook) wilde ik iets passends met mijn nagels doen. Ik heb naar inspiratie gezocht op Pinterest en kwam uiteindelijk uit bij een pin die ik al een hele tijd geleden gepinned had (zie pin hier). Omdat deze pin van een fotosite afkwam en er geen watermerk op de foto staat heb ik geen idee van wie het origineel is. Mocht één van jullie het weten vertel het dan in de comments zodat ik ze credit kan geven :D

First I painted my nails with two layers of Essence A Piece of Forever (the gold). Then I let that dry really well before applying striping tape in a cross-shape. After making sure the tape was on neatly I painted over it with one layer of Essence Black is Back, the most pigmented black that I own. Then I carefully removed the tape with a pair of tweezers, making sure I pulled off the tape in the correct order. When the black was dry I dabbed on a dot of top coat with a dotting tool and placed a red rhinestone as seen in the photos. After that I finished with a layer of Catrice High Shine & Quick Dry Top Coat.

Eerst heb ik mijn nagels gelakt met twee laagjes Essence A Piece of Forever (goud). Dat liet ik goed drogen voordat ik met striping tape een kruis vorm maakte. Nadat ik had gechecked of de tape er goed op zat heb ik één laagje Essence Black is Back aangebracht, de meest gepigmenteerde zwarte nagellak die ik heb. Daarna haalde ik heel voorzichtig de tape in de juiste volgorde eraf met een pincet. Toen de zwarte lak droog was bracht ik wat top coat aan met een dotting tool en plaatste een rood steentje zoals te zien is op de foto. Daarna bracht ik nog een laag Catrice High Shine & Quick Dry Top Coat aan.

Essence Laser Show

Sorry for being a bit MIA again. I do have an excuse, but I leave it up to you whether you find it valid or not ;) I received a Kobo Touch ereader as an early birthday present from my parents about a week ago (though once I get more money when my actual birthday comes around I have to pay part of it back because it was rather expensive). So I've been reading a lot the past week (I finished four books already) and that's why it took me a while to get back to blogging.
Today I have a swatch of Essence Laser Show on the blog, which is a mix of black and white matte glitter in a shimmery base. Party Crasher (another one in this collection) can also be found on the blog :)

Sorry dat ik weer een beetje MIA ben geweest. Ik heb een excuus, maar ik laat het aan jullie om te bepalen of het een goeie is ;) Ik heb ongeveer een week geleden een Kobo Touch ereader gekregen als een vroeg verjaardagscadeau (maar ik moet er nog wel een deel van terug betalen zodra ik meer verjaardagsgeld heb gekregen omdat 'ie redelijk prijzig was). Dus ik heb de afgelopen week heel wat gelezen (vier boeken heb ik al uit) en daardoor duurde het even voordat ik weer verder ging met bloggen.
Vandaag heb ik een swatch van Essence Laser Show voor jullie, dat is een mix van zwarte en witte matte glitter in een glinsterende basis. Party Crasher (een andere lak in deze collectie) kun je ook vinden op deze blog.

In the photos above I am wearing two layers of the polish on it's own. As you can see it is rather difficult to see the white glitter. Next time I'm going to layer this one over a colored polish. Application-wise it was easy to work with. The only problem I had was that I had to dab on the black glitter, which didn't want to come off the brush otherwise. I really like this one, and it is unique in my stash too.

Op de foto's hierboven heb ik twee laagjes van de lak op mijn nagels. Zoals je kunt zien zijn de witte glitters moeilijk te zien. De volgende keer ga ik er dan ook een gekleurde lak onder doen. Het aanbrengen ging makkelijk. Het enige waar ik last van had was dat ik de zwarte glitter erop moest deppen omdat die niet van het kwastje af wilde komen. Ik vind deze lak heel erg leuk en hij is ook uniek in mijn collectie.

Maybelline Color Show Street Art

I've been waiting for these polishes to come to the Netherlands and I finally managed to snag them a week or so ago. Compared to other countries we have a small selection but I'm happy nonetheless. I bought two of the four colors available.

Ik heb er een tijdje op moeten wachten tot deze ook in Nederland uitkwamen, maar een week ofzo geleden heb ik ze eindelijk kunnen kopen. Vergeleken met andere landen hebben we maar een kleine selectie maar ik ben er toch heel blij mee. Van de vier kleuren die er zijn heb ik er twee van gekocht.

The first one I bought is called White Splatter. It's a mix of white matte glitter in different sizes and blue, green and purple glitters. I layered one coat of White Splatter over one coat of Essence Red Ahead (yes it's a one-coater <3). It applied very nicely and I had no problem getting the bigger white glitters to come out and play.

De eerste die ik gekocht heb heet White Splatter. Dit is een mix van matte witte glitter in verschillende maten en blauwe, groene en paarse glitters. Ik heb één laagje aangebracht over één laagje Red Ahead van Essence (ja, dit is een one-coater <3). Het aanbrengen ging heel gemakkelijk en ik had ook geen probleem om de grote witte glitters eruit te halen.

Well, look what we have here, it's the illusive right hand~ (please excuse the shortness of my middle finger's nail) Seeing as I couldn't decide which Street Art polish I wanted to wear first I painted both hand differently.
This is the second polish that I bought called Boom Box Black, a mix of matte black and chartreuse glitters in different sizes. I layered it over two layers of H&M Happy Gray. Just like White Splatter this one was a breeze to apply.
Btw, I couldn't resist having my awesome ring in the first photo, hence the slightly weird position. And it's really weird to photograph something with your non dominant hand XD

Kijk eens wat we hier hebben, de zeldzame rechter hand~ (let niet op de korte nagel van mijn middelvinger) Aangezien ik niet kon kiezen welke van de twee Street Art lakjes ik als eerste wilde dragen heb ik gewoon beide handen anders gelakt. 
Dit is de tweede lak die ik kocht genaamd Boom Box Black, een mix van matte zwarte en chartreuse glitters in verschillende maten. Op de foto zie je één laagje over twee laagjes H&M Happy Gray. Net zoals White Splatter lakte deze super makkelijk.
Btw, ik kon het niet laten om mijn awesome ring ook op de foto te zetten, vandaar die ietwat rare pose. En het is heel apart om iets te fotograferen met je niet dominante hand XD

Hema Blue & Yellow

As the people who live in the south of the Netherlands might have noticed (to be honest, it's hard to miss), the festivity know as carnaval has struck again the past few days. For all of you who have no clue as to what this entails I recommend you go read all about it on Wikipedia here (there's pictures too!). While carnaval is celebrated all over the world, the version in the Netherlands is a rather peculiar one in my opinion. Personally I'm not a big fan of carnaval, but I was going to help out for one night at our local carnaval 'club' with my sister in law I decided to paint my nails in the carnaval colors of the town I live in.

De mensen in het zuiden van het land zullen het al wel gemerkt hebben (niet heel moeilijk te missen) dat carnaval weer in het land was de afgelopen dagen. Carnaval wordt over de hele wereld gevierd maar ik blijf de Nederlandse versie toch maar apart vinden. Ikzelf ben dan ook geen fan van carnaval, maar omdat ik één avond ging helpen bij de lokale carnavalsvereniging (de JJ) met mijn schoonzus besloot ik om mijn nagels in de carnavalskleuren van mijn dorp te lakken.

During carnaval my town is called Dommelboarzedurp and it's colors are blue and yellow. Now my skin tone and yellow don't really see eye to eye so this is probably the only time that you'll see a yellow polish on my nails. Feel lucky ;) The colors I used were two polishes from Dutch drugstore Hema. They don't have names, only a number, which I forgot and I'm too lazy to look them up :P Shown here are two coats for both colors and no top coat. The yellow one did stain a bit, even though I wore a base coat.
Just out of curiosity; did any of you celebrate carnaval the past few days?

Gedurende carnaval heet mijn dorp Dommelboarzedurp en de kleuren zijn blauw en geel. Nou is mijn huidskleur niet de beste vriendjes met geel dus dit is waarschijnlijk de eerste en laatste keer dat je mij een gele lak ziet dragen. Prijs jezelf gelukkig ;) De kleuren die ik gebruik zijn van de Hema, ze hebben geen namen alleen een nummer. Die ik niet onthouden heb en ik ben te lui om het op te zoeken :P Van beide heb ik twee laagjes op en geen top coat. De gele lak heeft wel mijn nagels een beetje verkleurd, ookal droeg ik een base coat. 
Uit nieuwsgierigheid; hebben jullie carnaval gevierd de afgelopen dagen?
