Striping Tape Mani Tutorial

It's finally here, my first tutorial! As mentioned before this is not my original tutorial, but merely a repeat of an existing one that I'm making for friends so that they have easy access to it :) I hope it's easy to follow and that you enjoy reading it~

Hier is 'ie dan eindelijk, mijn eerste tutorial! Zoals ik al eerder zei is dit niet mijn tutorial, maar een herhaling van een al bestaande tutorial die ik maak voor vrienden zodat ze hem makkelijk kunnen vinden :) Ik hoop dat hij een beetje goed te volgen is en dat jullie het leuk vinden om te lezen~

Tape Mani Tutorial

Materials needed / Benodigde materialen:

Striping tape. I bought mine on Ebay for really cheap (44 rolls for $4.50 or something). Here you can find a buy it now listing on Ebay for roughly $0.92 with free shipping to the Netherlands :) You can find many more like this one by typing in "striping tape" in the search bar. For convenient storage I decided to put mine in a scotch tape holder.

Striping tape. Ik heb die van mij heel goedkoop op Ebay gekocht (44 rolletjes voor $4,50 of zo). Hier kan je een buy it now listing vinden voor ongeveer $0,92 met gratis verzending naar Nederland :) Je kunt nog veel meer zoals deze vinden als je "striping tape" intypt bij de zoekbalk. Om ze makkelijk te bewaren heb ik de rolletjes tape in een plakbandhouder gedaan.

Nail scissors (or normal scissors) and tweezers.

Nagelschaartje (of gewone schaar) en een pincet.

Optional: acetone/nail polish remover and a small make up brush for cleaning up the cuticles.

Optioneel: aceton/nagellak remover en een klein make up kwastje om je nagelriemen schoon te maken.

Step 1 / Stap 1:

Start with one or two coats of you base color, which is a silver polish in my case. Make sure to let this dry for at least an hour before applying the striping tape. If the base isn't completely dry the tape will pull off the base layer of polish, effectively ruining you mani.

Begin met één of twee laagjes van je basiskleur, in mijn geval is dat een zilverkleurige nagellak. Laat dit zeker een uur drogen voordat je de tape er overheen plakt. Als de basis niet helemaal droog is dan zal de tape deze meenemen zodra je de tape eraf haalt, waardoor je mani verpest wordt.

Step 2 / Stap 2:

Apply you striping tape in the desired pattern. Make sure you remember the order in which you put them on your nails; when pulling the tape off again you'll want to do this in the opposite order for the cleanest lines :) Another tip for crisp line is to make sure to press the tape firmly on your nails and into you cuticles. This way you can minimize the bleeding of the polish underneath the tape.

Breng je striping tape aan op de nagel in het gewenste patroon. Onthoud hierbij goed in welke volgorde je de tape aanbrengt; als je de tape er weer afhaalt dan doe je dit in de omgedraaide volgorde zodat je het netste lijntje krijgt :) Zorg er ook voor dat je de tape goed aanduwt, ook bij je nagelriemen. Hierdoor kun je voorkomen dat de nagellak onder de tape komt tijdens het aanbrengen.

Step 3 / Stap 3:

Paint your second color over the striping tape, making sure to cover the entire nail. I chose this color because it covers in one coat. Of course it's not necessary but makes everything a lot easier.

Breng je tweede kleur nagellak aan over de striping tape, zorg er daarbij voor dat je de hele nagel bedekt. Ik heb voor deze kleur gekozen omdat die dekt in één laagje. Dit is natuurlijk niet noodzakelijk maar maakt alles wel een stuk makkelijker.

Step 4 / Stap 4:

As mentioned in step 2, pull of the striping tape one by one in the opposite order of which you applied it, using a pair of tweezers. I prefer to pull of the tape while the polish is still wet, because the lines will look better, and there is less chance of pulling loose the dried polish of the second color.

Zoals vermeld in stap 2, trek de striping tape er één voor één af met een pincet, in de omgedraaide volgorde van hoe je ze hebt aangebracht. Ik vind het fijn om dit te doen wanneer de tweede laag kleur nog nat is, want de lijntjes zien er dan een stuk beter uit. En je hebt minder kans dat je de droge nagellak van de tweede kleur meetrekt.

Final step / Laatste stap:

Lastly, apply a generous coat of top coat to smooth out your design. I also use a make up brush and acetone to clean up the polish on my cuticles and to create a nice round "smile line" near the cuticle. This is completely optional though :)

Als laatste breng je een laag top coat aan om alles mooi glad te maken. Ik gebruik daarna ook een make up kwastje met wat aceton om de nagellak van mijn nagellriemen te halen en een mooie "smile line" bij mijn nagelriemen te creëren. Maar dit is helemaal optioneel :)
